News: Significant subsidies already in place for first-timer flat applicants

The Ministry of National Development noted that first-time homebuyers also enjoy priority when they apply for new flats near their parents. Many options are also available for first-timers who opt for resale flats close to their parents.

Singaporeans looking to purchase their first Housing and Development Board (HDB) flat is already provided with significant subsidies by the government.

“These include pricing new HDB flats at a generous discount to market, and offering additional grants to first-timers,” said the Ministry of National Development (MND) in a written answer to Parliament on Tuesday (3 September).

The ministry noted that first-time homebuyers also enjoy priority when they apply for new flats near their parents.

Many options are also available for first-timers who opt for resale flats close to their parents.

“They will then enjoy the relevant CPF housing grants, as well as the Proximity Housing Grant, which was recently enhanced in 2018,” it said.

“First-timer applicants with special needs will benefit from all of these measures.”

The ministry made the statement in response to a parliament question from Member of Parliament Dr Intan Azura Mokhtar, who asked about the special additional housing grants as well as special priority for adults with special needs to live close to their parents or caregivers when applying for their first flat.

The ministry added that they will “continue to review and update our housing schemes to ensure affordable and accessible housing for all Singaporeans, including those with special needs”.
